In the present study, aging of the optic nerve was studied in female Sprague-Dawley rats aged 3, 12, 24 and 30 months old, ultrastructurally, immunohistochemically and morphometrically trying to answer the question why aging is a common risk factor for many ocular diseases especially glaucoma.
