  • The existence of civil marriage puts some minimum defaults in place ??? most of which are the ones people would choose anyway if it were up to them, such as spouse gets the house and kids.However, with all the alternative forms of families that exist today, other laws have been/are being put in place that cover those situations, so maybe we don???t need civil marriage as much as we used to.
