  • America was reeling from Vietnam and Watergate and this probably seemed like so much fluff.Peter Bogdanovich's work was already under criticism from some for being set in the past and not 'contemporary' (only what is Up Doc qualified as contemporary of his films prior to this) and there is an element of that in the reviews as well.But I find it a strong film and greatly enjoyable.
