Reflecting a deep contempt for the principles of due process of law and other procedural protections set forth in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the Pentagon claimed the power to seize people anywhere in the world and inflict punishment on them, including life imprisonment or execution, without effective assistance of counsel, due process of law, habeas corpus, or even a jury trial.
