In one exemplary embodiment, cells of substantially uniform size and shape may be cut (e.g., by laser cutting) into a metallic tube (which may be made, without limitation, from a superelastic alloy such as nitinol or other suitable material), which is subsequently bent to form the D-shaped ring generally conforming to the shape of the natural cardiac valve annulus.
