The studios began charging tourists 25 cents (about 20p) to watch as films were being made, giving them a chance of a glimpse - however distant - of stars such as Rudolf Valentino and Lon Chaney, and this idea later developed into the theme park concept which was pioneered here and exported around the world - but which Universal Studios still does best.
