In contrast, fluoride accompanied in solution with Group I metal cations, such as sodium or potassium, exhibit little decline in activity over a broad range of cation concentration, because these ions are only monovalent in charge (Figure 2.) Notice that a 1 ppm fluoride solution in pure water has only a slight activity decline as a function of added potassium ion, where electrode activity is not
