???It seems to me copyright is a tool to foster creativity and not a moral right.??? This essentially utilitarian justification of copyright has indeed been the dominant point of view in the United States. (It finds expression, among other places, in the Constitutional clause upon which copyright rests.) But in Europe, the competing tradition of ???moral rights??? has long has greater sway.
