Beginning with the TIROS weather satellites in the 1960s, the first Landsat spacecraft in 1972, and extending through to International Earth Observing System platforms that are currently under development, nations have demonstrated a willingness to support and carry out the comprehensive observations needed to study climate and other significant changes in the global environment.
