A patient whose BMI is 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight; anyone with a BMI of 30 and above is considered obese.9 The higher a patient's BMI, the more likely the patient has comorbid conditions that may need further evaluation and treatment, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.
