These include: inadequate nest sites (both in abundance and effectiveness), nest (clutch) failure (when one or all of the nestlings fail to survive to fledgling stage due to a variety of reasons such as starvation, inadequate nutrition, sibling competition), nest flooding, and botflies; competition for nests with more competitive species such as bees and other avian species such as large woodpecke
