If the child gets a few drops of blood in the breast milk, it is harmless except in the unusual situation where the mother has an infection spread by blood, such as hepatitis B or C, or HIV/AIDS. Occasionally, a child who has swallowed milk and some blood, spits up the milk and there is blood in it.
