In Iraq, the departure of Saddam Hussein was indeed hailed by Iranians of all persuasion but the political chaos and unimaginable violence that has followed in the wake of the American invasion has perhaps irretrievably fractured Iraqi society and the political and economic structure, with dangerous consequences for all neighbouring countries including Iran.
