The possible association between maternal-fetal vitamin D status and infant health outcomes may be particularly relevant to South Asian countries such as Bangladesh, where adverse perinatal outcomes and infant mortality are public health priorities [10], and where vitamin D deficiency has been observed among women of reproductive age [11] and young infants [12].
