Preferred alk(en)yl sulfates are the alkali and especially sodium salts of the sulfuric acid half-esters derived from the C12-C18 fatty alcohols, for example, from coconut butter alcohol, tallow alcohol, lauryl, myristyl, cetyl or stearyl alcohol or from C10-C20 oxo alcohols and those half-esters of secondary alcohols of these chain lengths.
