Milton Friedman in an interview stated that in my opinion the least bad tax is the property tax on the unimproved value of land, the Henry George argument of many, many years ago.The value of land is of course not primarily a function of acreage but of location, especially proximity to population centers and government funded improvements such as subway lines and highways.
