He went onto suggest that the populace could be encouraged to rise earlier and take advantage of the natural light by such things as ringing church bells, firing cannons, etc., and by taking advantage of an additional six hours of daylight they could save a total of about 64 million pounds of wax in Paris alone over a six month period starting in spring if people woke up when the sun came up.
